International Schools
At Ysgol Glan Gele we received the International Schools Award for the second time this October. The award was first achieved in 2005 and then three years later. The International Schools Award was presented by George Alagiah, the news reader, in a ceremony in London. The award was collected by Mrs S Davies on behalf of all the children, staff and people who have offered their support to the school, enhancing our international links.
The International Schools Award reflects the achievements gained in work related to international work. Here at Ysgol Glan Gele, we have created connections with schools in other countries including St Jude’s in Uganda and a school in Madagascar. We have sent books and sports kit as gifts, written letters and sent disposable cameras. We have excitedly received letters and photos back. We look forward to more connections in the future. We are currently preparing for the International Schools reaccreditation.
We have studied a range of different countries in our school. The children have participated in a European Day and have invited different visitors into our school, to share knowledge of their culture. We also have an International half term where all of the different classes learn about a different country and make comparisons with Wales.
We feel that the links we have with other schools in various countries is essential for our children to reflect on the cultures and ways of life of other people. It helps to make us rounded individuals and enriches the experiences of all children. We wish to continue our international links in the future, to gain the award again in three years time. If anyone feels they could contribute to our International Curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact a member of school staff.
