Welcome to the Leopards Class Page!

The Leopards Class is a Year 2 class and we currently have 25 pupils. We like to have lots of fun and learn a range of new skills every day.

School starts at 8:45am so please make sure you arrive at school on time! Pick up time is at 3:15pm.

General Information. 

I open the class door at 8.45am. The the register is taken at 9am. School finishes at 3.15pm. If you are not picking up your child at the end of the day, please let me know in the morning. 

 

Snack

We supply milk at snack time. You are welcome to send in a piece of fruit for your child to eat. If you send your child into school with grapes, please make sure that you have cut them length ways. 

 

PE

PE is on a Monday. The children should come to school dressed in a pair of tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt, jumper and a suitable pair of trainers. 

 

Reading 

The children need to bring their reading book and reading record into school every day. We will change your child's book on their allocated reading day (please see Seesaw). 

 

Learning Logs

Learning Logs will be sent home on a Friday. I will send home a paper copy but I will also upload an electronic copy to Seesaw. Learning Logs must be returned to school by the following Wednesday. 

 

Seesaw

I use Seesaw to send out pictures of what the children are getting up to in school, letters and other information. This is free to download and is a great way of communicating. Please contact me if you are struggling to download or use the app. 

 

Our Responsibilities in Year 2

We have many responsibilities around the school. We have two School Council Members, two ECO Committee members, two pupils on the Fairtrade Committee, two pupils in our Criw Cymraeg and two school buddies who ensure that playtimes at Ysgol Glan Gele are safe and happy. We also have two pupils on the Entrepreneurial Committee and four pupils who are play rangers, their job is to help make play times fun!

Places Near and Far

Our Big Questions are:

  • What are the similarities and differences between Wales and India?
  • What is a castle and why were they built?

 

Over the next 12 weeks we will be:

  • Using sources to find information
  • Locating key places on a map
  • Becoming travel agents and producing a brochure
  • Comparing population, languages and cultures
  • Recognising key landmarks
  • Using technology to design brochures for places of interest
  • Celebrating the Holi Festival of Colour
  • Exploring castles in Wales and why they were built
  • Visiting Gwrych Castle in Abergele
  • Writing a story about knights and dragons

 

We will also be...

  • Celebrating the Glan Gele Eisteddfod
  • Taking part in the Easter Service

Term 2a

Arctic Explorers

Our Big Questions are:

  • What is climate change and what causes it?
  • How is climate change affecting the Arctic?
  • How can we help?

 

Over the next 5 weeks we will be:

  • ·   Identifying where the Arctic is on a map and the key features
  • Conducting research to answer questions we have using a range of sources
  • Making predictions and completing experiments to understand melting and cooling
  • Solving problems involving habitats and animals
  • Deepening our understanding of a carbon footprint and how we can help protect the planet

 

We will also be…

  •     Continuing to develop our Welsh language skills
  • Taking part in a Technocamps workshop to programme devices for a purpose

 â€¦ as well as many other exciting activities!

Our Big Question is:

  • How do you put on a show?

 

Over the next 7 weeks we will be:

  • Rehearsing and performing a pantomime – Cinderella Rockerfella!
  • Exploring the theatre and different job roles
  • Planning our pantomime, preparing posters and tickets
  • Considering characters, plot and how to perform to an audience
  • Using our creative tools to design our own mini theatres
  • Creating backdrops for scenes
  • Making costumes for a variety of characters
  • Exploring time and sequencing

 

We will also be…

  • Enjoying our Christmas Dinner Day and celebrations in school
  • Attending Jack and the Beanstalk at Rhyl Pavilion!
  • Considering how Christmas is celebrated around the world
