The Kookaburras Class is a Reception class and we currently have 24 pupils. We like to have lots of fun and learn a range of new skills every day.
School starts at 8:45am so please make sure you arrive at school on time! Pick up time is at 3:15pm.

Reception Term 2a
People and Places
Our Big Question is; What makes Abergele special?
This half-term we will explore what makes our local area and community special.
We will:
· Consider what makes our town unique and special
· Take a walk around our school and the surrounding area
· Use the iPads to take photographs of local landmarks
· Map our local area to develop our understanding of position and direction
· Develop our use of positional language so we can give clear instructions
· Follow instructions from a recipe to make bread
· Learn and recite the story of The Little Red Hen
· Explore traditions linked to Chinese New Year and the story of the Zodiac
· Celebrate Santes Dywynwen by making cards and love spoons
We will also:
· Take part in dance, gymnastics and games in PE sessions
· Develop of understanding of health and wellbeing through a range of exciting activities

Over the next 7 weeks we will be celebrating lots of special days.

We will apply our learning by answering two big questions:
How do we celebrate special days?
Who is the most important character in the Christmas story?
When I grow up
Over the next 8 weeks, we will be learning about ourselves and others. Our topic is ‘When i grow up’. The children will have lots of opportunities to discuss their personal experiences, they will learn about the importance of rules and responsibilities; this will include an introduction to the Rights of the Child. At the beginning of the topic, they will focus on settling into their Reception classes, looking at how to use the different areas and the routines of the day. Then we will focus on the big questions which will incorporate learning about themselves their family, and what makes them special. The children will be re-introduced to the Brain Buddies stories and the Four Purpose Dragons.
We will also be learning about Autumn and seasonal changes and celebrating Harvest.
